Hobby #786 - Nail Polish

Lately I've gotten in to nail polish, maybe because I have lots of free time. One of my great friends pointed me to Juelp, a company that makes really nice polish. They have a monthly subscritption, where you get their polish mailed to you.

Sometimes I read books too.

Well we had a great weekend in Michigan, but since this blog is about Ohio, I'm gonna talk about the book series I just finished.

The Darth Bane trilogy by Drew Karpyshyn, which includes the books Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, Darth Bane: Rule of Two and Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil. 

This was my first time reading Star Wars expanded universe, (unless you count the time that I read Episode II before the movie came out) and I really enjoyed it. I don't want to spoil anything, but I was frustrated by the ambiguity of the ending, which I consider to be a good thing for a book. It made actually have to sit and think about what happened, not just take everything at face value. 

I think I enjoy reading about Sith far more than Jedi. I think their backgrounds make for far better character development. Also now I really want to cosplay as Darth Zannah. All I would need is some black clothes, a cloak, a Darth Maul light saber and blond hair. 

Next up on my reading list is Darth Plagueis by James Luceno. I am a little disappointed at the 1000 year gap in the story line, but maybe their will be some mention of what happened in between. 

This weekend Will and I are planning on going to Zoombezi Bay, the water park attached to the Columbus Zoo! I love water parks. 

Dinner on a Budget: Zucchini Ramen for One.

I just made this for dinner and it turned out exponentially more delicious than I thought it would. So I'm going to share the recipe (that I just made up).

Ingredients:
1/2 of a medium sized zucchini, sliced
1/2 of a small onion, sliced
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 egg
ginger
pepper
seasoned salt
1-2 tbsp. oil of choice, I use canola
1 package ramen, I prefer Maruchan brand.

Directions:

1. In a large fry pan heat oil. Saute zucchini, onion and garlic with a sprinkle of ginger and pepper. When the vegetables are not quite as done as you like them, shove them to one side of pan.

2. On the empty half of the fry pan, fry one egg. If nessecary to prevent egg from sticking, add a little more oil first. Sprinkle with seasoned salt while frying.

3. In a medium saucepan, cook 1 package ramen in boiling water for 3 minutes. Drain. Stir in about 1/2 of the ramen seasoning packet.

4. Put it all in a bowl and enjoy!

Another week gone by, another trip to the zoo

So we made it another week in Ohio. Got a free gym membership and went twice this week. Today Will and I went to the zoo again, this time by ourselves. We waited in line about 20 mintues to the the baby tigers, and it was totally worth it. They are soooooo cute. And they have a My Little Pony blanket. 

See? Adorable. They are both boys, and today they weiged 13 and 15 lbs. The zookeeper said they gain 1/4 to a 1/2 a lb A DAY. so they won't be babies for long.

We also got a great look at the polar bears this time.

Craft Completed!

So I like to do crafty things. And I start a lot of projects. Rarely, however, do I finish them. BUT TODAY I actually finished this crochet project that I started in June.

I really love the yarn, it's a Bernat Cotton Handicrafter - one of those giant skeins. the color is a twist of purple, blue and lime green. Cotton is my favorite yarn to work with and these are all of my favorite colors!

 
Unfortunately due to the suckieness of my camera,  you can't see the details of the stitches very well.

Weekend Adventures

This weekend my friends came down to go to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. I knew that Elle and Maggi were coming, but they surprised me by picking up Kittie in Ann Arbor on the way!

We were really excited for the tiger exibit, but sadly there was a very long line to see the baby tigers. We headed straight for the full grown one though. This is my husband looking for tigers.

 The tiger didn't want to turn around for a picture.

 We went to a touch pool in the aquarium, where we got to touch a horesehoe crab, starfish, lobster and other things. It was neat.

 The kangaroo exhibit was really cool because you could get really close to the kangaroos.

Elle is impersonating a mongoose to try and get the cobra's attention.

We had a lot of fun watching the wolverines and showing off our Michigan pride!

We saw tons of other great animals and I look forward to going back with our membership!

Anyway, before I start posting pictures of Ohio (which would invove finding/unpacking my camera) here is some background info.

My husband and I both grew up in Michigan and we met here:

Then we got married,

went to Florida,

and got an apartment

complete with cat.

Then my husband got a new job, so here we are in Ohio, where I have to get new car insurance, I can't return pop-cans for $0.10 and anyone who finds out I'm from Michigan asks me if I am a college football fan.
