My job at Macy's has been giving me very little hours. As in 8 in the past two weeks. Very frustrating. They say the reason is orders from above telling them none of us seasonals can have hours. Last week when they got permission for some hours, they called me first though. So that's good I guess.

Will is lonely and misses his friends.  The one friend he thought he made at the game store turned out to be impossible to get a hold of. He worked at Target, so Will kept going there to try and catch him, until he asked about him and found out that the guy got fired for stealing.

I am trying to get everyone to come down for his birthday (the 6th) on the 10th.

So I spend my free time playing Aywas and Wajas, watching tv, reading, crocheting and cooking. I made the most delicious banana bread this week. I will make a post about my latest crochet project when I finish it.

My cat is very happy. And soft. And pretty.

Spinach Lentil Tomato Soup

I invented this soup today. Writing down the recipe here so I don't forget it:

(measurements are approximate, because I don't usually measure when I go soup inventing)

I use a 3 qt saucepan

about a 1/4 of a large onion, chopped
6 cloves of garlic, coarsely chopped
half a bag of baby carrots, finely chopped
enough oil to coat

Saute the above ingredients until the carrots are soft and begin to brown.

1 can of your favorite tomatoes, pureed in a blender
2 cups of broth (I used beef)
1 cup dry lentils (washed)
8 oz. frozen spinach
thyme
sage
oregano
salt
pepper

add the rest and cook until lentils are done (about 30 mins)

Serve with a sprinkle of parmesean and a glass of apple cider!

Got a new pony today.

Now I have all of the pegasuses.

Sunny Rays, Rainbow Dash, Feathermay and Fluttershy.

Will and I went garage saleing today, and I scored a free purple timer, a free purple sock, two round cake pans for a dollar and a couple nice measuring cups for fifty cents. We also found a gigantic thrift store that was right next door to a pretty big thrift store. We got a Fiestaware periwinkle bowl for $.90. It's kind of beat up, but still a really good deal. All of the thrift stores back in Kalamazoo caught on to the Fiesta thing and started pricing them high. 

Will has been doing a lot of dumpster diving lately. Our freezer is full of raspberries and blackberries.

Tea Time!

When I am at home and want to drink tea, a teabag and coffee mug just won't do. For starters I don't even own a microwave, so I'm always heating water up in the kettle. But I prefer my tea in a teapot.

There is my modest collection of teapots. The emphasis of my collection is on quality, not quantity. I want nice teapots. Not shelves full of ugly "china" from gift shops. There are six on that shelf, and I actually have one more that a friend bought me in China, which is made out of cinnabar. Though not from Cinnabar Island. (Pokemon jokes, anyone?)

This is what I am enjoying today! The teapot was a gift from my mom, the cup from my sister and the tray from a friend.

I prefer drinking tea in small cups because I drink it too slow in a mug and it gets cold. It stays warmer much longer in a teapot, and if it does get cold, I just freshen the pot up with some more hot water. This gets more use out of my leaves too!

Of course I am not shy about using teabags and mugs when I am away from home. It's much simpler at work or at friend's and relatives homes. I advocate all forms of tea drinking!

Magic Celebration

This weekend there was a nationwide event called Magic Celebration, where local game stores give out free cards in attempts to get people into Magic: The Gathering. Since we already play Magic, we went for the free cards.

We have checked out a few of the game stores around Columbus, of which there are many. We like to play EDH at Fog of Dusk, and Will likes to trade at Comic Town. Those stores are both about 20 minutes away from us.

On Saturday for Magic Celebration, we decided to check out the nearby game store, Dave's Club house. It turned out to be a great time, I won the mini-master tournament and walked away with 15 free booster packs of M13, and Will got 11. 

 We ended up opening 3 Thundermaw Helkites between the two of us.

Here is what I walked away with. Yeah, that's a foil Rancor in there. 

And afterwards we used a Groupon that I had previously picked up for some Sushi! I had my favourite rainbow roll, and Will had a red snapper roll that had spicy mayo in it that I did not like. Our waiter misunderstood me twice, thinking I said green tea ice cream, when I said iced green tea. And then when I pointed to vegetable tempura on the menu and said "we would like vegetable tempura" he brought us vegetable Gyoza. In the end, we got what we ordered and it was all quite delicious!

(very precise) Recipe:

1 handful Watermelon chunks
1 handful Strawberry chunks
1 handful Ice cubes
1 cup Chilled Green Tea

Blend.

Nail Polish Fairy Strikes Again!

So there is this website called Copious, where you can buy and sell things, mostly jewelry, makeup, clothing, etc., and if I invite you via facebook, you can get a free $10 credit towards anything on the site.

I used my credit to buy this:

It is Kleancolor's What Girls Really Talk About Glitter Nail Lacquer Mini Collection, and includes the following six mini nail polishes, from left to right: Black Out, V.I.P., Kiss Goodbye, Grand Finale, Carat and Peaceful Heart. 

I tried each one on top of my blue and yellow Julep polish from last week:

V.I.P, a medium density red glitter. I really like this one. 

Kiss Goodbye, a tiny and dense rainbow glitter. 

 Grand Finale, long and stringy silver glitter.

 Carat, a fine gold and silver glitter. Looks really nice on top of my Julep Blake.

Peaceful Heart, a low density green glitter with hearts, but I couldn't actually get any of the hearts out of the bottle and onto my nail.

Sadly the sixth one, Black Out, is incredibly thick and goopy and did not apply well to my nail at all. It is a black polish with fine silver glitter and larger silver glitter.
